Ingredients Glossary

At Baarden we believe that premium products should be defined by the quality of the processes and ingredients from which they are created. That's why we are proud to feature this glossary of ingredients used in our products, explaining the reasoning behind the addition of each, as well as the benefits of each. We are proud to use USDA certified organic carrier oils and butters in our product line.

INGREDIENT
BENEFITS
Beeswax

A natural wax produced by honey bees, it consists mostly of fatty acids and long-chain alcohols, and provides a natural and non-toxic way to add body and thickness to our grooming products. Despite the fact that we use beeswax mainly as a way to add grooming style control to our beard balms and butters, it has the added effect of being a natural humectant, meaning it helps retain and preserve moisture in both the hair and the skin when applied.

Castor Oil

An oil extracted from the seeds of the castor bean plant, it is rich in ricinoleic acid, a type of monounsaturated fatty acid that is extremely effective at moisturizing the skin. With its natural anti-inflammatory effects, castor oil is also effective in helping soothe the skin beneath and around the beard hair follicles, especially in the first few days and weeks of beard growth.

Cocoa Butter

A fatty oil extracted from cocoa beans, it is rich in oleic, stearic and palmitic acids, it helps to both moisturize skin as well as promote elasticity.  As it is solid at room temperature and melts at just below body temperature, as well as providing a naturally pleasant aroma, cocoa butter is an ideal addition to our beard balms and butters, allowing for the product to not only nourish the hair and skin, but to also allow for some grooming style control as well.

Fragrance

Essential Oils used to add a specific aroma to our products.

Grapeseed Oil An oil extracted from the seeds of grapes, it is high in vitamin E and Omega-6 fatty acids, helping reduce inflammation in the skin. Compared to other carrier oils, grapeseed oil is relatively light and thin, which allows it to add shine and moisture to the hair without leaving it feeling heavy or greasy afterwards.
Hemp Seed Oil

An oil extracted from the cannabis sativa plant, it is rich in linoleic, omega-6, and alpha-linolenic fatty acids, providing natural anti-inflammatory effects as well as moisture retention. With it's ability to soothe irritation, inflammation, as well as to retain skin moisture, hemp seed oil brings a welcome relief to those suffering through the itches and skin irritation of initial beard growth.

Jojoba Oil

An oil extracted from the seeds of the jojoba tree, it is extremely similar to human sebum, the natural oil secreted by your skin’s sebaceous glands. This makes it the ideal oil used in our product line, as it helps to properly and naturally moisturize the skin, leaving it neither too dry nor too oily.

Shea Butter

A fatty oil extracted from the nuts of the shea tree, it is rich in oleic, stearic and linoleic acids, as well as vitamins A and E, helping moisturize the skin and protect it against sun damage. As it is solid at room temperature and melts at body temperature, shea butter is the ideal base for our beard balms and butters, allowing for the product to not only nourish the hair and skin, but to also allow for some grooming style control as well.

Sweet Almond Oil

An oil extracted from the dried fruit of the almond tree, it is rich in Vitamin E, nourishing the skin and hair and helping to retain natural moisture and fighting against dryness. This oil, with its antioxidants and fatty acids can also help fight against irritation and inflammation that grooming regiments may cause.
